I think it just shows how clueless the Republicans are... whenever they pick a token anything to run on a ticket, it's hardly a compliment to the people. And, it looks very desperate.

I cannot express how pleased i am with this election. It makes up for the letdowns of the last 8 years a little bit. It felt like winning a championship or since i'm from Cleveland, what i'd imagine winning a championship would feel like.
A great moment in American history.
I do not suppose I shall be remembered for anything. But I don't think about my work in those terms. It is just as vulgar to work for the sake of posterity as to work for the sake of money.

Guess what OBAMA Rhymes with OSAMA......................JK I actually voted for obama.
I have found peace so let it continue......
Lum, I agree and fail to properly find my words... "excitement" is such an understatement! We have yet to understand the ripples this actually sends through our world, future, and universe...

Not even them. The bulk of hardcore conservative whites (whites being the bulk of the hardcore conservative camp) would not be ready to vote for a black man, and of those who could conceive of voting for a black man, even fewer would want to vote for Keyes, who has said quite a few things that have raised questions in the minds of many about his mental stability.
The man is off his rocker.

If you had one leg being pulled by reality, and one leg being pulled by spirituality, where would that leave you, huh?
They say that because it's safe to say that. It's easy to make a declaration of what you would do in a certain situation, if you are reasonably certain that that situation is not going to happen. Powell ain't running.
Besides that, have you forgotten that a lot of hardcore conservatives are now denouncing Powell as a racist for endorsing Obama? In their world where the sky is red, Barack Obama has no redeeming value that would make someone in their right mind support him, therefore, Powell's decision to support him must have been some conspiracy of racial solidarity. Some ultra-conservative ayhole actually said to me in an e-mail "Powell endorsed Obama because of race, and you know it!"
Then I ripped that ayhole a new ayhole.

Good point, but I really think they would have voted for him up until he did that. Before then, they were begging him to run and he wouldn't do it. (As to his choice of Obama, people maybe should steer clear of the race angle, but backing Obama is a strange choice for someone who broke political silence to come out as a Republican and even served under the Bush administration. For someone upset at Powell for this, "race" is not that hard a conclusion to jump to. A better explanation is to examine the circumstances surrounding Powell's exodus from the Bush administration, and consider Powell's support of Obama to be a legitimate expression of outright contempt for the Republican's betrayal of the American people and the world.)
I still have to challenge the notion that hardcore white conservatives have a racist leaning. Not anymore. A good place to look is the heart of hell itself, Alabama. Following even the most Alabamic of Alabaman white ultra-right hillbilly madness, the trend is to have "no problem with black people", but to be unable to "stand those damn faggots". This trend, I think, manifests popularly and widely throughout the deep parts of the deep South, and if they're willing to say things like "those damn faggots"... a lot... I don't think their acceptance of blacks, however awkward, is just some kind of politically correct show. I think logic and civility have finally broken through and embarrassed them into improving on at least one point.

I was hoping that you'd mention that. Kudos.
A lot of hardcore white conservatives have a racist leaning, and so do a lot of hardcore white liberals. In fact, I consider the racism of the white liberal to be even more insidious, because it's shrouded in a thick layer of denial.I still have to challenge the notion that hardcore white conservatives have a racist leaning. Not anymore.
Y'know, for a long time it's been out of vogue for white racists to publicly admit their hatred and contempt toward blacks. Most of the hatemongers have evolved into "racialists" who claim that their opinions and actions are not inspired by a hatred for blacks, but by a love of "the white race".A good place to look is the heart of hell itself, Alabama. Following even the most Alabamic of Alabaman white ultra-right hillbilly madness, the trend is to have "no problem with black people", but to be unable to "stand those damn faggots".
Hatred of homosexuals is pretty much taken for granted in many Evangelical circles, and Evangelical Christianity is, of course, most popular in the Bible Belt. I remember way back when I was 13 years old (a long-ass time ago), and our youth group leader went right out and called some gay guy at Burger King a "little faggot". Even though I was not comfortable with homosexuality (I'm still not), I knew even then that there was something very wrong with the youth group leader's behavior and attitude.
I think it's more a function of black empowerment, and you're simply noticing people watching their own tongues to lessen the risk of any loose words reaching the wrong ears, rather than a newfound civility. There are a lot of white people who don't say racist things in public, not because they don't want to, but because they don't want to get punched.
Now, don't get me wrong-- I'm not one of those people who scapegoats Southern whites for America's racism. On the contrary; I think that's where the greatest strides toward a new America have happened. I'm just not one to believe that the South has gone farther than it actually has.

I used to not consider Florida the deep south, but it'll be downright shocking to me to hear things come out of white mouths, like "good" when they hear of a fatal accident involving a black person (whom they don't know), or just simply "I hate n------". Or, like racial bias in terms previous described-- not *HATING* blacks (right....), just having a sense of "white pride"... Or saying they don't believe in interracial marriage-- not because they hate black people, but because they think it's "unfair to the babies (what will they be? where will they belong?)". I even know of churches that shun interracial couples.
It's weird that in my area I actually witness less "faggot" talk and more anti-black/pro-white opinion... you'll see trendy bisexual/gay whites who admit to racial prejudice. It's okay to be a "fag"... at least I'm not a "n-----". Not to say that it's hard to find anti-gay opinion though... 'cause it's not. Anyway, I'm tired of white/straight people seeing me and thinking they can talk that way around me just because I'm not dark skinned/gay. As if I won't be disgusted and totally call them on it! Boy, that gets ugly quick.
But I guess like Coz says, the area in Florida I'm in is perhaps just as bad as the rest of the "deep south".
In conclusion, many people are highly disturbing.

Hatred toward interracial couples, and the children they produce, just cracks me up how ridiculous that is. I've grown up around interracial couples and their children my entire life. I hate to break it to these haters, but I have seen no freakin' diiference at all. Working at a summer camp counselor (in a camp primarily of white kids), and dealing with my interracial cousins, 4 of them, and my other interracial friends have given me insight to tell everyone there is no difference. I can't believe anyone makes such a big F***ing deal about who your parents are. In as much as I REALLY don't care who you sleep with, man or woman, I care even less who your daddy was or what color he was. I will ultimately judge you for you.
I love the summer months!
Yeah... and they put it all under the veil of sympathy for the children. What about the children? The poor children! Where will they belong? Who will they be? WHAT will they be? Oh, the poor kids will be so confused!!!
If we get so caught up in defining and separating one another based on racial identity, I could see how that would seem like a problem. For those of us with beliefs founded in equality and harmony... it is apparently a non-issue! Kids will know who and "what" they are without having to belong solely to the "black" or the "white" world... ugh. It just takes some love and some parenting and some non-prejudice, for god's sake.
