I have to agree with you, Chris. I'm a fan, but I think he slaughtered that song and Cohen's "Halleluiah" -- Buckley's version is still my favorite. But his debut album, and the recent one are amazing. Not a huge fan of the middle one, except a song here and there -- especially a cover of his dad's "One Man Guy" ... which takes on a whole new meaning when he sings it.

My favorite "Across the Universe" is the stripped down one on the Anthology.
Actually, I meant I liked it, but I did like Fiona's better. I also liked his "Halleluiah", but I had never heard that song before I heard his version, so maybe I'm bias toward liking his, although Jeff Buckley's is undeniable.

I actually liked Rufus' Poses better than the first album (as a whole album). Want One is really good too, but I haven't been able to decide if I like it more than Poses.

They're all good tho'
I just don't end up where think I'm going when I start out.

Y'all are making it harder and harder for a guy to be a lurker 'round these parts. I've been around for a long, long time even back to the beginning of the old pre-registration forum. I just don't generally enjoy posting in places like this because I express myself so poorly when I'm not in person that stuff I say usually gets misconstrued. Then again, I guess that means I'll fit in just fine around here, no?

Believe me when I say that I think you are all a bunch of cool cats, so don't take it personally that I've just been back in the shadows all this time. I figured it was time to start (visibly) hanging around more, though, cuz I don't wanna get locked out of the rest of the forum of course!

Ermm...I guess this is where I talk about me? Oh right, I jumped into this thread because everyone was riding the Rufus train. I'll add another tally mark to the "straight but loves Rufus" category. I saw him in concert (solo) a day or two after he released "Want One", and then again (with his band) a few months later. I've got a couple of gay roommates and we like to argue over who likes Rufus more. And let me just say how ecstatic I am that Be is a fan of Martha's as I think she's mesmerizingly wonderful.

Sheesh, how do you introduce yourself to a forum full of people you respect and admire? I'm 23 and have loved PM Dawn since I first heard my brother playing Utopian when I was a kid. I maintain that Dearest Christian is one of the few perfect albums in existence and it's my all-time favorite album, right ahead of Jagged Little Pill. My order number for F*cked Music was in the single digits. Not relevant in the least, but I've still got the printout because I was so excited about it. I don't play any instruments or write any songs, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Ex...no wait, that joke was played out before it even started.

Artists I'm either currently listening to or listen to constantly are (in no particular order): PM Dawn, Alanis Morissette, Angie Aparo, Rufus Wainwright, Loudon Wainwright III, Annie Lennox, Garbage, Ben Folds, Beth Hart, Blessid Union of Souls, Tori Amos, The Flaming Lips, Tears for Fears, Fisher, Poe, ad nauseum.

I'm getting married in like three months, and "Perfect for You" is one of our wedding songs. My wife-to-be cried the first time I played it for her. So Be, let me thank you in advance for helping me score on my wedding night.

And yeah, I suppose that's plenty enough for now. Geez, I feel like I'm in an AA meeting or something (not that I've been before, but this is how I imagine it). So is this the part where you all go, "Welcome, Champ. The first step is admitting that you're a Dawnaholic, and now that that's over with it's all downhill from here."?

    Wow, good memory.

And yeah, I try to be a cool customer at all times. Especially then, though, when it felt like everyone around lost their minds over issues completely beyond Be's control, I felt it was important to stay level-headed. I was petrified that I was gonna go to my mailbox one day and, instead of pulling out F*cked Music, I was gonna have a letter that said something like "Sorry bruh yall will have to get your shit together first. Fukk all yall. And fukk you too. Here's your money back." Be's one of those guys I'd probably buy a CD of him singing the ABCs, so I sure didn't mind waiting as long as it took to get F*cked. Oh, and since I never did, let me just say to all y'all people who were complaining and worrying that you got ripped off--I told you it would be worth the wait.

There, that feels better. That's been pent up for years.

WOw Champagne(pronounced SHAM-PANG-GEE) if i didn't know any better i'd say it was me who posted this with the music tastes. Nice of a fewllow lurker to come out as a straight Rufus fan and of course as P.M. Dawn fan as well. Good to meet you i'm sure we'll jabber at one another.
I do not suppose I shall be remembered for anything. But I don't think about my work in those terms. It is just as vulgar to work for the sake of posterity as to work for the sake of money.

I always pronounce champagne as... sham-pag-nee, but that is just because I am an idiot and I like the ring.

Anyways, it was wonderful to read your posts. I wouldn't be so hard on yourself, you articulate yourself very well! Anyways, just thought I would say hi and keep posting...

    Hey Champagne!

I don't remember you right off the bat, but I'm sure it'll kick in after awhile. Your name is familiar. I just gotta say that you are such a sweetie and I'm glad you aren't lurking anymore. I like your attitude. You seem really nice.

And congrats on the wedding! What's her name? It seems this is really the year to get married... wow.

I tend to pronounce it as sham-pag-nee myself. And cologne is ko-log-nee.

But yeah, I'd imagine this would be the year for getting married. After all, pretty soon marriage won't be worth a plug nickel once they let (best redneck voice) "all 'em queers get hitched". Everyone's in a rush to get married before the "sanctity expiration date" runs out.

*sighs* Why are people so ignorant?

But to answer your question Elizabeth, her name is Sadrina. We've been together almost 7 years now, so we're getting married as soon as she graduates college this summer.

I really don't want to open THIS "can of worms", but... are you against gay marriage?

Oooh... Sadrina. That's exotic. Is she Indian? I've known my fiancé for 7 years, too. We seem to have a bit in common, eh?

    Congrats again!

Oh, heavens NO! 100% the opposite in fact. Sorry, thought my sarcasm came across there, but apparently not.

And no, she's not Indian, she's African American. Seven years for you, too, huh? Congrats! In this day and age it's pretty darned rare to find people who stay together past six months, much less past six years!
