Warlock 12" release of Ode to a Forgetful Mind (It's a Shame)

If I remember right, PM Dawn's first song released was Ode to a Forgetful Mind. I have a version that came on the extended version (Japan release) of Of the Heart...The Utopian Experience called Ode to a Forgetful Mind (The More Than Words Mix). I have the same version on the Paper Doll CD Single.

Well I came across a vinyl version that is possibly the first or second version pressed. Talking to Cozmo, the one he had pressed may be the same version(s) that Warlock pressed. I got a hold of the Warlock 12" (WAR 057A and WAR 057B). Very interesting and very different from the version I have on CD.

The A side has a 3:56 version labeled HIP HOP. It is a very basic version - no reverb/echo, simple, sampled drum line and bass line, and some overdubbed repeats on it.

The B side has a 4:04 version labeled ROCKER'S RHYTHM. This version has more thrown into it - samples of other sounds, electronic sounding bass (like the bass from Jam On It), deep bass thumping, opening "dooo do do do..." overdubbed all over the place. The end has someone cutting and repeating the Dooo do do do part - like Don-de-don-de-don-de-de-don-don-de-de-don de don don don". Like scratching, but done on the computer.

Couple of interesting things about the label:
    * Label top center has a graphic with the words Pet Project
    * The artist is not listed as PM Dawn - instead the artist is "PRINCE B"
    * Produced by lists Attrell S. Cordes, Jarrett Cordes, and Ben Cenac
    * Recorded and mixed at Transitions Studios Brooklyn, NY
    * Mastered at Frankford Wayne

Funny thing about the vinyl - it is a full 12" pressing. Side A has a 4 minute song and side B has a 4 minute song. This is about 1 1/2 inches of music, then 2 1/4 inches of that wide lead-out area. In that lead-out area (between the grooves) are some typical "run-out etchings" like the catalog number (WAR 057A) and cryptic little numbers or letters. BUT, about an inch before the lock groove, they etched:
"ODE TO A WASTE OF VINYL"
They etched that on both sides.
    Peace

    Pics or it didn't happen.

Seriously though, I love the idea of "Ode to a Waste of Vinyl"

Scan might be best - lighting on vinyl to get etchings is tough!

Thanks! Now you can see the etching better. I will use the darker scan for my mp3 conversion as an album art pic.

Does anyone know if the "record scratches" sound on the bass/drum loop is really from the sample? Or was it added as an effect just to make it feel like some really old record?

My copy doesn't have the etched message ...
I'm not signing this without my lawyer.

REALLY???? My understanding is that it was etched into some master that was eventually pressed. Maybe we have two different pressings? Does your label look like mine? I figured they would all be the same. I also figured that there weren't that many made...
