Star Wars: Episode III (may contain spoilers)

On the lava planet right before the final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin, Padme told Anakin (and I'm paraphrasing),
"You believe that anyone who is not with you is your enemy. Such absolutes in thinking are the way to the Dark Side."
Could this (and several of the political events taking place in the film) be an allegory to the doctrines and practices of the Bush Administration?
"What, Wheeljak? You fell in that open manhole?
    How is that possible?

i agree, i sorta thought that the jedi were just as polarized as the sith, and that maybe the Palpatine had a point with knowing the good and bad sides of the force.

Not necessarily... remember that Mace Windu kicked Palpatine's natural ass, and woulda pulled it off if it hadn't been for those meddling kids.
I am disappointed, though, that Yoda got schooled like he did, especially considering that he was supposedly more powerful than Windu.

I agree; I saw a problem with that, too. Ever since Ep I, they were talking about this "chosen one" who would bring balance to the Force. Then Mace finds the Sith lord, and he can't be dissuaded from killing him. If the teachers of the Dark Side are dead, how can there be balance?

Although it made for an excellent story element, I didn't like the idea that Dark Side powers could be used to prolong a person's life. I thought I understood that Light Side powers were used to preserve life, and Dark Side was used to destroy life. But let me repeat that the legend that Palpatine told Anakin was an excellent story element; it added gravity to the narrative about his seduction to the Dark Side; that it was not lust for power that corrupted him, but the fear of losing a loved one.

I hate to do this, but I'm a stickler for details. Padme was down at that point (having been nearly strangled to death by Anakin), it was Obi-wan who said that to Anakin. Right before a really good light-saber fight.

there we go, just right. keep walking...

Thanks, Harmeister-- that was interesting. It's amazing how much backstory has been added to George Lucas' original vision.

eternals layre...my boyfriend says that leia remembers "force" memories...i don't know if i buy it, but its as good of an explanation as any for why she can recall her mother. like, leia can access the force and what the force has seen with her memories.

    good movie.

My mom brought up the Leia question too, not sure if I buy it fitting.

My brother brought up the bush question, he seems sure that it refers to Bush.

Funny story, went to a nearly brand new theater to see it, during the previews the power goes out and doesn't come back on. Had to check it out at another theater, but it was worth it.

What can I say, Episode III was slammin'. Now, the circle is complete. (or so George Lucas wants us to think). I missed when they killed Count Dooku, but am going to see it again. Hey it's worth it.
If it's my world too, then whose gold is this I'm digging out

NAAAH it aint complete .. theres one of two projects if not both going ahead...

George Lucas is prepping .. finding other directors to do TV series based on the star wars universe, he doesnt want to direct .. and he said he has come up with a movie or series of that would take place a long time before these .. the generation of sith lords well before palpatine was around.. when there were 80 or so sith lords and the jedi council had no power yet but he said theres no way he will direct it..

That was a pretty cool site, thanks eternal. I saw Ep III a couple of nights ago, it was cool...hmmm, wonders if I could be Vader's attorney, entrapment is still illegal :-D

i thought it was a really good scene when palpatine and windu were going at it and anakin had to choose which side he was going to take. tied in real well with the future when hes watching palpatine and luke go at it and he has to again make a decision, but this time choosing the other side.
