Andrew Robinson (Elim Garak) this weekend provided some welcome news for Star Trek book fans.

The actor revealed he has started work on a new novel based around Garak. His comments came during an appearance at Pages Bar in London, where TrekToday reader Daniel Nicholls was in the audience.

"[Robinson] said that the play he has been doing with 'Sid' [Alexander Siddig] at conventions has gotten his creative juices flowing and he's decided to write another novel, in the vein of R. Heinlein's 'Stranger in a Strange Land'," wrote Nicholls.

Robinson went on to share a few annecdotes from his time on Deep Space Nine. He described the experience of Armin Shimerman (Quark) during the 1994 Los Angeles earthquake. Shimerman rushed to drive home from the studio - still in his Ferengi make-up. Driving was chaotic and relied on drivers looking closely at one another from behind the wheel, since all traffic signals were down. Shimerman's appearance must have been the cause of one or two puszzled drivers that day.

A member of the audience asked Robinson if Avery Brooks (Benjamin Sisko) was difficult to work with, as some rumours implied. The actor replied that Avery was a great man and a great actor. He explained that he really loved 'In The Pale Moonlight' because he got to chew scenes with Brooks. He also said well-written scenes were like great sex to perform - as it's all about who you're doing it with.

Robinson previously authored 'A Stitch in Time' in May 2000. The book followed Garak's return to Cardassia, and was written in the form of journals and letters. 'Stranger in a Strange Land' is a 1960's cult classic about a man raised by Martians who teaches humanity a new life philosophy.

Big thanks go out to Daniel Nicholls for sending in his report of the event!
