    Alright
Tap the lightpole and we'll be jammin all night
And ain't nobody callin' the cops
'Cause everybody's here freakin', if they're older they're doin the rock
And every block from all around
Comes runnin' to the park when they hear the sound
And soon the word's spreadin' through our part of town
    "Yo, 40 Park y'all, Jam-On's gettin down"
    Yeah...

Believe me, a lot of people think that way. They think you have to be young to rap, and if you rap you're not supposed to sing, except for the occassional chorus or hook.

Of course, I never subscribed to that bull. I was doing both from the beginning, and I'll be doing both in the end.

I'm more inclined to think that it's not so much transitioning from rap to ballads so much as broadening one's musical range that would suggest "growing up" artistically. Though, when it goes the other way around and someone moves from ballads to rap, I've noticed that they tend to get branded as a tourist, a sell-out or trying to rip off "real" rap fans.
