    HO MY LAWD!!!!!!!!!!

This EW&F album friggin ROX!!!!

This is like they decided "Fukk it, we gonna do it like we did it back in the day, fukk wut da suits want!!!!!

This may actually creep into my top 3 of the albums they have made all time!

I especially love the fact that they've re-added a female lead voice...it really adds a texture that they have been wanting for a long time!

In a time of compromise, perhaps the GREATEST band of all time has said "fukk it, we will do wut da fukk we want!!!!", and the result is an album that smax of the era of when that's what EVERYBODY did!!!!

    DAMM IT!!!! I AM INSPIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU AGAIN LOUIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not to dampin your beliefs........but I think that album needed some work. The only reason why I say this is because the only other album that I have of them is their greatest hits. There is no comparison between that album and the greatest of the greatest hits.

Most of the tracks are old school which is great but tim kelley and bob robinson which are two typical song writers from today, wrote a track on there that soundss so much like a typical r and b track today that it sticks out like a soar thumb. The only thing that they need to work on is their vocal arrangments for most of the tracks as well as some catchier choruses. Other than that its awesome!!!!!!

How do you compare any 1 album of ANYBODY's to thier greatest hits album???

The fact that that is the ONLY album by them besides this 1 that you've ever heard I believe excludes you from the discussion!

It's for exactly that reason that I never truly partake in the PM Dawn debates, I am just not versed in the material.

After a couple more listens, I will agree that the hooks could be a little stronger, as well as a few of the lyrics. Niether Maurice or Phillip sing anywhere near as strong as they used to, but the texture of their instruments fits as perfectly into their fantastic vocal arrangements as ever.

I can honestly say that I doubt that there is a single sure-fire hit on this album...TODAY...but in like 1974 or '75, when this would have been a double album, it would have been full of them!

I respect both of your opinions, but I disagree on certain points and agree with certain points. I have just about ALL of their albums except for the very first one. So I have a feel for their old direction and new direction. Trust me, like Coz said, they went a little retro than their previous two newer albums.

I totally disagree about Bailey! That brother still has an incredible voice to me! "Betcha" & "Where Do We Go From Here" couldn't have been any better in ANY era. This album doesn't need any more work, it needs more exposure.

As I said before, the biggest improvement was bringing back Maurice to sing on many tracks. The chump they had singing "his" songs just didn't cut it.

Now the demand for their music (and sound) isn't as great (due to all the CRAP we are droned into listening to these days), but I think the true EWF fans will be VERY pleased with this album. To me, especially at this point of their lives and careers, I think this album is a masterpiece, being both modern and retro for them at the same time.

    Louis

P.s. FilmWiz, please listen to Gratitude, I AM, and All N All, then tell me what you think about the ranking of these albums. The best of #1 is just an OUTLINE of their incredible music.

I am in ABSOLUTE agreement Louis!!!

The only thing I was saying about Phillip is his voice is showing his age. As men who sing falsetto get older it usually gets harder and harder for them. Many of them lose the abillity altogether. With Phillip, it isn't that he's lost any chops...because he hasn't (which is amazing all unto itself!), it's that I can actually hear his voice working at the vocal where as when he was younger it sounded completely effortless.

Sort of like when you compare the performance of the VERY FEW women who have the range and courage to cover Minnie Ripperton and Minnie's own performance, many times they match her note for note and lick for lick...but you hear them working for it...Minnie always sounded like "Hell, I still got another octave or 2 left if I feel like it!"

A few of the lyrics are a little weak (but I AM a lyric nazi...heheheh), but the vocal arrangements are CLASSIC Earth, Wind & Fire!!!!!!!!

I feel you Coz on Phil's voice.

And I like "That's the Way of the World." But personally, I just don't feel that that album was the best they've ever done. It was very good though. Jupiter & Fantasy were too awesome. Hell, he's gotta listen to Spirit and Raise too! And many high school bands (like Elle's) play "In The Stone"--which is on "I AM", an album that moves very fast. If you're gonna study the classics, get all dem shitz!!

    Agreed!!!

I would point out though that only 1 album brought into this world:

"That's The Way Of The World"
    "Reasons"
    "Shining Star"
    "All About Love"
    "Happy Feelin'"
    "Africano"
and "Yearnin' Learnin'"...ALL classics, All all-time hits!

I understand that you weren't listening to them yet Louis, so it may have been a bit before your time, but it's a greatest hits album in and of itself!!!

As I've said before, it's not MY favorite album either, but I don't think there can be ANY argument that it's their GREATEST album...and to not reccomend it 1st is just...criminal!!!

Now, you know "Reasons" is the sh*t, no arguement there. I was just barely starting to get into them, when this album came out. My love for their music has no time prejudice on it. I could very easily make a "best of" from ANY of their albums (Except maybe "Head to the Sky"). There were some big hits on "Way of the World" and some big hits on "All N All. " Even though we hate "Boogie Wonderland."

Yeah, I agree about "Head To The Sky", yet even still "Keep Your Head To The Sky", "Evil", "Clover" and "Zanzibar" are all exceptional!

I'm sorry, keep your 80's and 90's Pop crap, the bands of the 70's (Funk, Rock, Jazz, Jazz Fusion...you name it!) RULED!!!

And Earth, Wind & Fire was the BEST OF THE BEST!!!

    THEY FUKKIN ROCKED!!!!!!!!

Maurice wasn't there, but -check this Louis- Phillip Bailey sang most of his parts...AMAZINGLY!!! He sounded EXACTLY like him!!! By the time I found parking they had just started, and walking to the park I SWORE it was Maurice singing! I was SHOCKED to see it was Phillip!

I went with my youngest son Matthew and we stood in the rain for 2 hours and watched an INCREDIBLE show! The only new song they did was "All In The Way" which they said was the new single. They played just about all of the hits, and SMOKED 'em! They even played "Evil"!

We weren't too far but we had to stand to the side because the place was jam-packed, but they had large screens up so it was all good. Yo, Verdine hasn't lost a fukkin step! He was all over the stage just jumpin and bouncin around!

The keyboardist did this dope ass solo and I said "oh, they're gonna do "September" and my son corrected me and said "no Dad, that's "Fantasy", then the next song they jumped into was "September" and from the 1st note he said "Now that's September", and I'm looking at him like "Who is this kid?"

Phillip KILLED on "Reasons"...of course! Man, it would be easier to tell you what they didn't play than what they did! Hell, they even did "Sun Goddess"!

About 15 minutes to 10 they said goodnight, and I was thinking "they gotta do an encore, hell they didn't even do "That's The Way Of The World"! But the roadies came out on stage and all the people started leaving. Well, me and Matt walked about 20 feet when they came back on stage and said "Where's everybody goin?"
SO NOW WE GOT TO GET RIGHT IN FRONT!!! Then they killed "Devotion", "Keep Your Head To The Sky", and finished up with "That's The Way Of The World"!!!

Yo, they smoked so hot I even enjoyed "Boogie Wonderland" and "Let's Groove Tonight"!!!

It was fukkin incredible!!! The only show I've ever seen that topped it was the 1st time I saw Parliament/Funkadelic...and hey, I was trippin on acid that night!

AND I SAW IT FOR FREE BABY!!!!!!!!
