The whole internet is getting hit with a DoS attack, so this site may be slow or not even load for some of you at differant times of the day.

Short for denial-of-service attack, a type of attack on a network that is designed to bring the network to its knees by flooding it with useless traffic. Many DoS attacks, such as the Ping of Death and Teardrop attacks, exploit limitations in the TCP/IP protocols. For all known DoS attacks, there are software fixes that system administrators can install to limit the damage caused by the attacks. But, like viruses, new DoS attacks are constantly being dreamed up by hackers.

I'm not going to try and explain it past that, I have to go re-route traffic on some customer servers (if I can even connect to them) so I don't need IM windows poping up asking me whats going on.

turns out that MS SQL Server has a hole that causes servers to have a shit fit and go on a network killing spree.
the attacking software code was scanning for victim computers so randomly and so aggressively, sending out thousands of connections each second, that it overwhelmed many internet backbones.

and the main cause of the problem? stupid admins didn't install a patch that was released about 6 months ago.

This is why I don't and never will use Windows on my important servers, too many effing problems. Linux breaks and theres a patch the next day within 3 to 5 days 80% of the Linux servers on the net are patched. Windows breaks M$ releases a patch when they feel like it and don't inform people that it's an important patch.

I don't wanna hear any Mac crap either because if Mac OS was actualy used for something important then there would be problems with it too.
