I was trying to be diplomatic so I said well you where underwear...it keeps you in, so thats what bra's do for women. he nodded his head like it was the answer to life. Oh ok now it all makes sense. I guess it depends on what the author meant by "intimate".
It is a tricky word, particularly since today most people seem to connect an inescapably sexual connotation to it.
