PM Dawn AND Newcleus in BLENDER 500 Greatest!!!

HEADS UP!!! The new Blender Magazine (October 2005) includes PM Dawn and Newcleus in their "The 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born!" list that takes up over half of the issue!!! Congrats to PM Dawn and Coz!

    quote :

#94 Set Adrift On Memory Bliss P.M. Dawn
    [1991]

Jersey rap softies sample new wave torch song
Even in the daisy-sniffing hip-hop world of the early 90's, you had to have blossoms of steel to rap over the schmaltzy strings and sighs of Spandau Ballet's "True." But Prince Be sent listeners into reveries with his tale of unrequited love, and also birthed the trend of much tougher guys like Puff Daddy and Eminem rapping over soft tunes by the likes of Sting and Dido.

    #178 Jam On It Newcleus
    [1984]

Divine nonsense from chipmunk-voiced electro outfit
Who says early rap was all nonsense? Newcleus's breakthrough dance anthem tells the story of rapper Cozmo D ("from outer space," apparently) holding a block-party battle with Superman, and is all about crushing electro beats, fizzing synthesizers and squeaky backing vocals that sound like Alvin & The Chipmunks' tough cousins. Cozmo D wins the battle, by the way. Disco Kryptonite, y'see.

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY for you guys!!!!!

    Hah!!! That's great! Thanx Kristen!
    Alright
Tap the lightpole and we'll be jammin all night
And ain't nobody callin' the cops
'Cause everybody's here freakin', if they're older they're doin the rock
And every block from all around
Comes runnin' to the park when they hear the sound
And soon the word's spreadin' through our part of town
    "Yo, 40 Park y'all, Jam-On's gettin down"
    Yeah...

I really do feel PM had a lot to do with Em and people like that who do rap over the softer melodies.. Be had the influence in that.. I know it..

yeah overall Blender is my favorite all encompassing popular music magazine...its always funny and usually the writers do their job when it comes to research. most of all, they all seem to be fans of making popstars look stupid and fans of GOOD music!

The Father's letter is for you. His ways are higher than ours. It takes time to grow a seed and bear good fruit. Rebuke the devourer. The battle is the Lord's and He will be victorious.

If that makes me crazy then that's okay.
Reverence for the Father and his instructions outweighs all else.

I have subscribed to Blender since the beginning. They are the best music mag out there today, but they're always late on their news and obits...

The best parts of the mag are the backstory on a hit single every month, and when they review someone's entire catalog...
    Keep your headphones on.

I'll have to give Blender a chance, I guess. The first time I saw it, Jewel was on the cover, so, y'know... I just assumed that I wouldn't like it.

edit: But I do hafta say... Jewel has some tig ol' bitties.

i love those backstory on a hit single sections too. the regular reviews can be hit or miss, but the catalog reviews are usually spot on...i loved the one about michael jackson where they were like "when you listen to the 20th cent masters of MJ, it makes you wonder what happened to the fun-loving partyboy."
