Yup. Well more like an online group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/friendsofthetuareg/. It's a forum with info and discussion about the Tuareg people who live in the Sahara in Africa.

Hey, you wasn't supposed to know about that... That is YOUR group... I joined to see what it was about and of course expand my knowledge... which I love to do... don't let Wino find out I said that... :tinker:

Anyway... I'll be around, RUMI... We need to get on some serious studying of our history and people... Anything you or COZ can share with me as a start I'd greatly appreciate it...

I shall rephrase the question... Is there any books any one of you would recommend? Out of your studies which book in your opinion was the most informative or that pops to your mind when asked this question...?

Walter Rodney How Europe underdeveloped Africa. That book was an eye opener. It is thick but easy to read and provides so much facts.

Ivan Van Sertima They Came Before Columbus.

You might want to study African politics through film and litterature as well. There are many authors and film makers that use their art to educate the people. In Africa, they do not make art just for the sake of it. There must be a purpose for society. Wole Soyinka from Nigeria, one of his books are in the public library and it talks about politics in contemporary Africa and what Africa needs to do with regards to the old colonizers who still control Africa's economy. There is a writer from kenya who's name escapes we I think it Waringa or something.. Coz I am sure you know who I am talking about, help me out.

    Chuk,you can start with that.

Well, are we talking African or black American studies? How Europe Underdeveloped Africa is a MUST read either way, so yes it's a good place to start. As long as we're including the arts a little Fela wouldn't hurt either.

I'm not sure who you're talking about Rumi, I'm much better with the titles of books than I am with the authors. Been a LONG time since I read a lot of this shit too. I first read How Europe Underdeveloped Africa when Yvette brought it home in her 1st year in college...1980.
