Hey I got this idea for a topic when I read some of the posts on disco music. I was just wondering if there is any type of music, band, or song that you may really like but you hate to admitt it. I for one can say not everything I listen to is well received by most people. So if anyone is willing to admitt it, go ahead and share I'll start...ok...I'm gonna be real, I am a fan of the MONKEES...there I said it (I love the bass in Pleasant Valley Sunday  ). And if I reach even deeper, there was a time in my high school years where...whew can't believe I'm going to admit this...but New Kids on the Block was my world!!! :lolbonk: :lolbonk: :tinker: Ok I have embarrassed myself enough for board amusement...anyone else willing to open up

Oh, New Kids on the Block was the bomb.

I can't believe I'm doing this. Umm, umm, umm... hnoes:
I'll give only a few admissions...let's just keep in mind that I was very young and MTV was new and stuff so I was all amazed with videos (cuz we also just got cable) and so...here goes:

    Ratt: "Round and Round"
    Cinderella: "Nobody's Fool"
    Poison: almost anything from them.
Motley Crue: "Smoking in the Boys Room" (why was I singing this song in like 4th grade?)

Raamstein: "Du Hast" (man, I can sing this song in German [and English] complete with accents)

And the one that takes the cake:
Ms. Roxanne Shante: hnoes9: Can't remember the name of the song but part of it goes.
"Then you know what else happened.
I went to Marley cuz we was a close friend.
I said, I want to make a record, yes.
He said, come to my house and let me see if you're fresh.
I said no not that way, no not today...he said, you know I'm just playing Shante'."

    Ok, I've aired my dirt.

I'm sure owning a copy of THE JETS was bad. I don't recall listening to it or what in the hell they sang but i somehow bought it! I really enjoy the Monkee's. I love lots of oldies tho and the Monkee's had their share of pretty solid tunes.(both those written for them and those they wrote.--Love Michael Nesmith!)

Oh wait...Debbie Gibson would have to be waaaay the hell up there! Album Out of the Blue. Lord how gay am i? JETS and Debbie Gibson?

Lastly everyone needs to see the movie made by the Monkee's. It's called HEAD. I love it.

Hmm, I personally dig most of the music mentioned.
I'd first like to thank everyone for being so honest in their posts. Y'all really make me feel so much better. I think I need to air my dirt more often. It's so liberating.
I'm also glad to see I'm not alone with the Roxanne Shante. Thanks for that, 'Be'. I thought I was taking that one to the grave.

Anyways, I tend to enjoy jingles for commercials and TV tunes and those can be really bad (especially the ones I like). For example, umm, children's shows...like the learning ones that I'm way too old to be watching without owning or having any children of my own...such as "Zoobalee Zoo". Man, it has the best song to it! Also, the 'Good N Plenty' candy commercial from way back in the early 80's. I feel as if I'm the ONLY person in the world that remembers that song. It's the best jingle ever.

Let's not forget "The Great Space Coaster". Oh Yeah!

Good one, Chuk. I can still jam to Milli Vanilli.

    Oh, one more...Crucial Conflict "Hay".
"Haaaay, in the middle of the barn...(smoking on) hay
(haaaaaaaaay) in the middle of the barn. "

Sadly, I know all the words and find myself singing it from time to time in the office. :dunno:

True is the only song from Spandau Ballet that I knew as well. It wasn't until I got Grand Theft Auto Vice City that I heard another song by them "Gold", not the best music to play when you carjacking someone or takin' out a crime boss. :dunno: Actually "Will I Am" and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas did a remake of True. It's on the "50 first dates" Soundtrack (recommended for those who like contemporary artists re-doing cheesy 80's songs)...of course it cannot compare to the original...doesn't even have the "bought a ticket to the wor-or-orld, but now I've come back again" part.

And Milli Vanilli...Blame it on the rain.... I also have an album by this band from the late 80's "When in Rome"...whoa...hate to admit it but it's true, still pull it out on long roadtrips (when I'm riding alone of course)

And SCB, you not only sing Crucial Conflict around the office, you sing it around your friends too, they just love you too much to mention it. *lol*

That would be a pretty sweet cover. Only who would you pay? The band you're covering or those they originally "covered"?

as for what I will admit I listen to? I have every single Enya CD (When I hear that track from Jay-Z all I hear is Enya in the background. I don't listen to the rest of the song) and most Yanni CD's. Admitedly I listen to the Yanni ones as background music at work because I don't have to concentrate on it, but I still like them.

there we go, just right. keep walking...

We should never do this again. If we do we must make sure we have a cave where we all can live and remain there for the rest of out lives. My Wife by the way knew the JETs songs and reminded why i owned the album. Oh well....OFF TO THE CAVE!

She still makes the Old School rounds. I was supposed to be someplace with her Saturday night, but I was too worn out.
    Alright
Tap the lightpole and we'll be jammin all night
And ain't nobody callin' the cops
'Cause everybody's here freakin', if they're older they're doin the rock
And every block from all around
Comes runnin' to the park when they hear the sound
And soon the word's spreadin' through our part of town
    "Yo, 40 Park y'all, Jam-On's gettin down"
    Yeah...
