    What qualifies someone to be a genius? Now this is a short-sighted small little tidbit i'm tossing out here but was Brian Wilson a genius? Or do you reserve that level for someone like an Albert Einstein?

    I think the word is bantered around too freely. (although anyone can feel free to say "That LumtheMad is a FLIPPIN genius!!!" You must use the word flippin. )

    So what do the masses think?
    I do not suppose I shall be remembered for anything. But I don't think about my work in those terms. It is just as vulgar to work for the sake of posterity as to work for the sake of money.

    Well, I think that there are many ways to be a genius. Of course Einstein was a genius, but to me it doesn't have to mean that one has to be a scientific genius. I think it just means that one is very advanced in their field of knowledge, more advanced than nearly everyone in that field. I also think it has to do with creativity in that field. The person has to do something that hasn't been done before. So, if you think Brian Wilson meets these criteria, by my definition, he was a genius.
    I just don't end up where think I'm going when I start out.

    right on hero...

    my definition is a genius is someone that is ahead of his time. Transending anything is the key to genius in my opinion. But the results can't just be meaningless and stupid but I also believe the word is thrown out too loosely... cause I ALWAYS say that Lum is a FLIPPIN genius and I am riding on his coat tails.

    My definition is really short:

    genius = extremely creative thinker

    for whatever field of study.

    It could mean a various amount of things and levels for someone to be considered a genius. But a majority of the time, people use this when they cant understand how or why they/its happened, so they start labeling..

    When u get a person with no formal training of no sort who is "abnormally" smart and highly skilled in different things, they might be considered a genius..

    Justafan you are the best coat-tail rider there ever was. If i had a medal i'd meddle with it somehow and mangle the damn thing up somehow. I think you may've earned a promotion from Coat-tails to Pig-tails! You move up quick on the Lum express genius loving train-WOO WOOO!!!!

    Good imput by everyone by the way. I think the definition of being creative beyond the normal scope could be a good measuring stick. Who is a writer anyone would pick? I think it's pretty tough because much of it's based on taste. I vote Mark Twain......

    Tokien certainly should qualify. Now i hate Kerouac so that makes me biased. Maybe his poetry is good. Haven't read any of that.
