that slightly chewy thing in with the homemade croutons?

    :ugh2:

yeah, that's the tip of my left thumb.

Did three and a half hours in the emergency room, too, because it wouldn't stop bleeding, and literally soaked through four changes of gauze.

I was cutting the day-old bread into croutons, because we were making Caeser Salads that night in class, and didn't pull my thumb back fast enough, so I've now got a nice flat-ended thumb, just past the end of my nail bed. I managed to pull the rest of the thumb out of the way in time. Didn't realize I'd stuck the thumb out so far under the knife's path, to be honest. As the cut was going down, I realized it, and pulled the thumb back, but not quite fast enough. So, my thumb's about 97% whole, just a little flat-ended now. Lucky that it stopped bleeding when it did, because the docotr said that if it didn't, cauterization was the next step.

    ouch.

    that hurts.

    just thinking about it.

I cut my thumb once as a teenager and remeber that it bled for ever and ever and ever and ever. That's the only thing I remember (well that and the scar I haveon my left thumb). Glad to hear your ok.

there we go, just right. keep walking...

feeling better today. Although I'm sure the Motrin 800's and Vicodin are helping somewhat.

Took the bandages off last night. dried blood everywhere, all over my thumb. Evidentaly it DIDN'T stop bleeding as soon as we'd hoped, but it seems to have stopped now.

Washed off as much of the dried blood as I could without getting the surgifoam wet, which is a no-no. :ugh2:

wrapped it back up in gauze. I technically guess I don't have to re-wrap it back up now, but with the gauze on there, I"m much more aware of the thumb and am careful not to bump it. Without it, I might get careless and jam it or bump it, or accidentally rip the surgifoam off.

This way, I've got a massive digit sticking out (shaddup, coz :fawkdance: ) that I'm mindful of.

Thanks for the well-wishes. It sounds a lot worse than it really it, to be honest. I'm sure it'll be a good conversation piece in a few months. I had JUST sharpened my knives the night before class, so it was a perfectly clean, really beautiful cut; as far as that goes.

Injuries like that are never fun. Ahhh there is always a bunch of dried blood when you first take off bandages...its like a norm really.

hmm just be VERY careful not to get it wet, gets infected EASY that way & defeats the whole purpose. Its going to go thru an awray of colors & nasty apperances but if you keep dr visits up etc, you'll do great!!
