I can't even begin to wrap my mind around a Particle Collider.
The LHC should produce some really interesting results when it is turned on. It should help answer some rather fundamental questions, like why things have mass.
The scale of the thing certainly is mind bending, but at the heart of it, all they are really doing is taking two particles, smashing them together really hard, and looking at what kind of pieces they broke into. It just so happens that some of the pieces might be things we haven't discovered yet like miniature black holes, magnetic monopoles, or Higgs bosons. ;)
Schematic of where the collider is under the Swiss countryside:

What are you? An astrologer?
once i kinda died.....my hair.....:P
bring it on !!!
I would be much more able to relax if I was assured that Gordon Freeman works there.
I guess I'd better get drunk as many times as possible before May.
i hope we learn something that changes our understanding of matter, something that fundamentally changes how we think about the world...
WITHOUT DYING HORRIBLE DEATHS BY GETTING SUCKED INTO BLACK HOLES!!!!
seriously, the star trek nerd in me is full of hope for this project.
How about if every human on earth had an entire planet out there in the universe that worshipped him/her the way many worship Jesus on earth.
Like they were once on that planet and then left and landed here, leaving behind countless worshippers back on their former planet.
What if you and everyone you knew and everyone they knew to-the-10,000th-power all spent an entire hour each day visualizing world peace. Do you think it would have an impact?
If Jesus returns, would history only repeat itself?
He'd better not return as a woman, or his fate would be fucked. Too many people all over the world these days hate women for some reason.
It won't happen then. Not yet. At least not for everyone.
