Syxx, the next time you get water in the basement (and hopefully that will never happen again), Home Depot sells a portable pump that will suck all the water off the floor and through a hose. My basement floods with water about once every year (usually melted snow and rain together). This pump, which I got for $75, will quickly pump the water out of your basement. It is much better and faster than doing the shop vac thing. I have no floor drain in my basement, so I had to hose the water out thru the pipe that is normally used for the washing machine. This pipe is about 5 feet above my basement floor. Just a little advice for next time.
They're called transfer pumps. We have one too. Used it when the basement flooded before I had a permanent sump pump installed.
