Welcome to the club
What unit is that? Is it a desktop that is customized for the TV/entertainment all-in-one? Let us know what's in it (at least for those of us not that familiar with the Mac line). It looks bigger than a Mac Mini...
It's a plain Mac Mini...I got it for the Frontrow software, and something new to tinker with.
Going to put it on a 40" flat panel and hook up a wireless keyboard/mouse to it.
Those things are gorgeous; it's almost like they are small pieces of furniture, rather than electronics equipment.
Wow! I thought Mac Minis were smaller, more cube-like (or am I thinking of another small formfactor PC?). Cool! Good luck setting it up, it looks like it will be fun! One day I have to convince my wife that we need one for the TV... get rid of BrightHouse's DVR.
mini is the size of about 4 cds high and wide
I've installed Windows on my Mac...
XP, I don't see anything amazing about Vista...it's reminding me of the Windows ME days.
It's too much of a hand holding OS.
BTW...any good sites for free software/tips?
I was just thinking the same thing about Me.
You got a good Newsgroup server?
Haven't messed with news groups in years...most all of them now are paid services.
www.newshosting.com costs me $155 per year and is worth every penny. Unlimited downloads and I believe 8 feeds (I only use 3). FANTASTIC retention too! Had 'em for about 4 years now, not a single regret. :)
ooh im using a mac too.. i feel dirty :haha:
dirty ?? but most macs are a lovely soapy white or metallic like sterilised stainless steel.....
:D
You might want to cheek out crossover for mac to win your windows programs

So, I'm on a mac right now at school. So far, the only thing I like about it is the extremely wide monitor. I still haven't figured out how to find the resolution, but I can tell you that it says "iMac" and it's really big. Other than that, it keeps slowing down and making my mp3 skip. Every mac I've ever used on campus (and i've used a lot; I'm a computer lab consulant) has been slow, especially logging on and off. It could be because of the build since the school has to get a million different kinds of software on everything, but either way they have shaped my impression of macs. I still like the monitor, though..I need to go buy a big monitor for my room.
mine's pretty slick...I need a bit more ram but it's fairly quick to respond to things.
I was a PC fiend for ages.. like 11 years.. making own programs, spending way too much time using, then when i wanted to do some audio stuff Coz and T suggested a mac would be the way to go for that..
not gonna blab on except to say i didnt know what i was missing and ill avoid ever using a PC again..
dont know whats up with your networked imac there terrick but mines pretty much always on and I open programs without regard to how much other stuff, you know i can have garageband open for some vocal stuff, 10 tabs open in opera, 4 in safari, bittorrent and be converting an AVI into dvd format.. I've only managed to properly freeze/crash and have to reboot about 6 times since march april 2005 and most of those were on games ported from windows!!
