For the money I would (did) go Event. The Mackie's are nice, but a little pricey for me. If you can afford Genelecs hey, that's the way to go.
I still think you should try going into device manager and deleting everything but the ide bus from the profile and restart, it just might fix your problem. :donno:

well i'd say actually if you really like the mackies just save yoursef a lot of cash and get the slightly smaller and newer 624s. the 824s are are more like mid-field monitors rather than near-field, and you dont exactly need that level of power unless you're wanting to lose your hearing or you have a huge studio and you're sitting a great distance from your monitors. but you're right, if you're worried about bass response, the mackies are a good choice, they certainly aren't lacking in that dept. and all around are a great choice for monitors.
if you get some events, just get the newer ones, they're all redesigned and are much quieter (noise wise) and have a flatter response. the new series are the TR's, and event makes them really more affordable than comparable monitors. so i'd check the TR8s.
the tannoy reveals are also decent and are around the same sort of price range, though they dont go as low in hz as the mackies or even the events
