David Blaine is a magician/illusionist...as for why he is doing this;

"I guess I am trying to put myself in a position where I could understand what she went through." - refering to the loss of his mother to cancer.

He has been buried alive for a week, encased himself in a block of ice for 3 days, and stood on a 90 foot pole for 36 hours.

So, part of it is magic, the other is testing his physical and mental limits.

and another part is just grabbing attention!


(Don't get me wrong, I actually like the guy and his crazy-assed stunts!)
