i have come to terms with the fact that i am more of a lennon fan than a beatles fan...it seems the only songs i really like off of rubber soul are in my life/run for your life and nowhere man,,,,,and the only pepper songs i like are lucy/mr kite/day in life/

though i gotta give revolver credit....paul wrote two killer songs (rigby/for no one/...and georges taxman is priceless...

i just seem to either fast foward or gravitate to the lennon songs on most of the albums..

and yes i like lennons solo stuff way more than the other three,,,
im curious to hear your thoughts....(i know ill get good answers out of samedeep/bri221/and saddledawn off of this post..

do you think lennon carried the beatles?
is pauls stuff too sweet?

is johns stuff too bitter?

and where do george and ringo factor withyou?

Lennon, all day. not too take anything away from the other three - but for me, it's John.

Paul? Paul is responsible for most of the Beatles' worst songs ever. I submit:

Wild Honey Pie
Honey Pie, for that matter.
Your Mother Should Know
Martha, My Dear
Lovely Rita
When I'm 64
Teddy Boy
to name a few...

I wish he'd been a bit more choosey when giving songs to Parlophone back in the day. Too many of his songs simply have toooooo much of that "Gee, I'm British and isn't it grand" feel to them. I'll grant you, stuff like "fool on the hill" "Penny Lane" "oh darling", etc - classics all. But way too inconsistant and the worst songs are so bad they can easily colour my opinion badly. His drumming on "ballad of John & Yoko" was superb tho. -- my final note on this is: if he was supposed to be such the songwriter, how come NOTHING he's released since 1970 even comes close to anything he did with the fab four? ("maybe I'm amazed" notwithstanding, of course)..

Ringo - what can you say really, he was a solid drummer. I could do without him ever getting near a microphone (although "octopus's garden" is pretty neat).

George - some great middle era stuff, but I know people who idolized this guy and I just never Got it. His solo work bores me! and I curse the day whoever decided it was a good idea to stick "within you without you" on the sgt pepper album. Still, the beatles wouldn't have been the same without him.

And John. He's John Fucking Lennon! He wasn't the greatest at any instrument but what he lacked in technique, he more than made up for in soul and feeling. He could really make it move, ya know? His lyrics and delivery were aces. That perfect combination of British upbringing and Street Youth attitude. His solo stuff is the only out of the four that holds up for me as well. "she's so heavy", I mean, whatever. That's fucking godlike. He wasn't afraid to turn off all his fans when he sang "i don't believe in BEATLES..." and I admire the hell out of that. It's all opinion anyway. I'll wager 1,000,000 dollars that saddle is a Paul man all the way tho.

I like John Lennon's solo stuff more than the Beatles. I've never been a huge Beatles fan anyway -- my mom was more into the Stones, the Doors, etc. so I wasn't raised in a real Beatles-friendly household, and although I've tried listening as an adult, I find the music boring.

I'm a Beatles fan. I did latch onto John at first.. I admired his ability to take leaps forward with his thoughts and music.. and I still do.. he is one of my favorites..
Paul came next, I adore his writing abilities.. He was the most talented musician out of the group.. very well rounded, and at times, he could whoop some ass. "Helter Skelter" and his guitar skillz on "Taxman".. yes.. Taxman..
I also enjoy George.. his music is a bit more sorrowful, but I really think he caught onto both of their songwriting capabilities.. All Things Must Pass is beautiful.
Favorite Beatle album? The White album.. by far.. its genius, and eclectic.

A lot of people bag Paul for some of his solo work.. but John had some sketchy throw aways on a majority of this latter albums...

beatles

john is to big of an ass by him self(er ono). he needed the rest of them to off shoot that.
I think it goes musicly also.
Each has one or two great songs solo but nothing compared to when they all where together.

it's a tight album overall, only a few duds, and those are paul's.

I'm a Beatles fan but I dug their solo stuff as well. I loved John's early stuff but I thought Paul's stuff with Wings was just as good, and that George's stuff might have been even better.

His album All Things Must Pass could wipe out any other beatle solo music by a country mile..

I would go so far to even say it would outweigh a beatles album.

I would have to say that I like the Beatles stuff better than either of the two by themselves. I think it's the balance of Paul's silly stuff and John's seriousness that come together to make a very entertaining album. Maybe that's a given.

I haven't heard "All Things Must Pass" though. Now I gotta go check that out.

Get the revised version.. The sound is a lot better.. though it isn't 100% perfected. There are some really nice extra cuts on it... and the artwork is really cool..

he did the front cover 3 times in the booklet inside as sortof each decade thats passed... like the first one was the same picture when he recorded it.. then the next picture was the same but with mills, and buildings, then the next had roads, and more pollution. then the final picture had planes, interstates and such added.. really neat.

I got the orignal vinyl and of all the beatles, lennon, wings, and george. Will never replace them with digital. Unless its done in 6.1. theres just something abou tthe hiss and pops that make it better to listen to.

Getting ready to listen to eagles in 6.1!!
