13. Shakira: Donde Estan Los Ladrones?

Why is it her spanish albums are so much better? Is it because I only vaguely understand the lyrics or are they just better in spanish?

In spanish, she's doesn't sound like a horse.:p

Yeah, and in english she sounds like a cornball.

Shakira does sound like a cornball in English - like she's trying too hard to be an American blonde. In Spanish, she's totally relaxed and in her element and she's badassssss. I have the spanish only version of Oral Fixation (her latest). It's way better than the english cd that just came out.

I saw her in concert in '97 and she didn't know a lick of English. She could barely introduce her non-hispanic band members' names but that freaking girl was slithering all over the stage, crooning and singing her heart out. Badass, I tell you.

Pies Descalzos is a good cd too. Her cd inserts helped me learned better spanish. I translated them completely for myself so that I would know what I was always singing.

I think you mean Ani Difranco rip-off. She was pressured by Elektra to remake it and at the time she didn't even know who Ani was.
Because of pressure like that, Alana told Elektra where they can go and started her own label, Tigress.

IMO, she outdid Ani on her own song. I went and bought the Ani cd to compare it for myself, because of all the harsh bitterness her fans had toward Alana (outdoing her) and Ani's version was ok but Alana's is better.

Either way, Alana Davis kicks a$$.

I'm going to Anguilla next month to see Alana perform at the Moonsplash festival. My karma really hit an all-time high this year because my other most favoritest singer ever, Buju Banton, will be performing too, and I actually have the money to go.

Pretty sneaky desert island choice SDL! I like your moxey i just don't like it anywhere near my pants.

I remember going to see Rufus when he was having issue's with Want 2 being released and said to bombarded his lable with requests. I am pretty well pleased with both albums but i think as time progresses 1 will prove to be far better than 2.

We have been listening to it in the car this last week or so. You were pretty close on the name of the album. At points in times on that album i hear some White Stripes on it.(the sound i mean) I don't know.....might be imagining something.

I am waiting for one other thing from them in the mail The soundtrack to Freakcity or something? My lady likes the tune "Kim the Waitress".

You'll love it when it comes. I was in Chicago for a few years - friends of mine from work are on the back cover of their live album. I have "International Pop Overthrow", "Freak City Soundtrack", and "Goin' Through Your Purse - Live in Chicago (2400 Trouble Makers Can't Be Wrong)".

What are the "white stripes" you heard? Like white noise?

Dude, I've listened to it a million times and I just listened to it again. Either I don't understand what "White Stripes" are or my version of the CD doesn't have it. What does a "White Stripe" sound like? Or what do "White Stripes" look like if you rip the track to a wav file and open it in an editor like Cool Edit Pro? Maybe I have an early print that doesn't have the stripes?

um, wow. I would have thought you'd at least *heard* of The White Stripes. They're a band, from my hometown. "Fell In Love With A Girl", "Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground" "Seven Nation Army", "Screwdriver"???
