who can blend vocal file with instrumental mp3 ?

i have always loved singing but had problems when living in the uk cause i was living with smokers and was allergic to cigarettes so my lung capacity was down to 70% and i had a frequent cough so now im back in oz im keen to work back up and stretch my voice again, as goals im gonna try to record vocals to a few tracks that i have in instrumental form, is anyone here good at merging the vocal track into the instrumental if they have the same start point ??
cause that would be cool...

make 'em both wavs and just paste them together in a wav editor. that's what i do when i record separately.
